Joan Failla Smith passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Metairie, Louisiana. She was born on May 26, 1937 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Harry Failla and Laura Ferrara Failla. She is survived by her husband David Smith of Metairie, her sister Gloria Failla Kambur of Metairie, nieces, Katrina Failla of Jemez Springs, New Mexico and Laura Kambur Parsons (John) of Metairie, her nephew Richard Failla (Amy) of Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Harry Anthony “Tony” Smith and brothers, Harry J. Failla, Jr. and James Robert “Bob” Failla. She received her education at Annunciation Academy in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Pine Bluff High School in Pine Bluff. Loyola University New Orleans (B.M.), the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (B.S.E.) and Tulane University New Orleans (Paralegal Studies). Joan was employed as a schoolteacher at St. Joseph’s High School in New Orleans, Cedarhurst in Long Island, New York, Inwood in Long Island, New York, St. Angela Merici in Metairie and Christ the King in Metairie. Joan also worked as a Senior Legal Assistant for Freeport-McMoran Oil and Gas, Inc. in New Orleans, and as a Paralegal Coordinator with Chaffe, McCall, Phillips, Burke, Toler and Sarpy in New Orleans.
