Hanne Poulsen Franc passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the age of 82. Hanne was born on September 7, 1934 in Aarhus, Denmark to Frederik and Ingeborg Poulsen. Loving and caring mother to Ingrid Franc and Christina Zimmer and grandmother to Anna Giurintano, Hanne had a small but devoted family. She was especially proud of her two son-in-laws, Neil Giurintano and John Zimmer, both of whom adored her. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews in Denmark.
Hanne epitomized the Danish concept of hygge—with a cozy home, good food & drinks, and long conversations around the dinner table. But there was also a fierce competitive side to her, and she took on all sports and hobbies with vigor—from swimming, tennis, and hiking to contract Bridge. An un-abashed people-watcher, she had the Viking spirit for adventure, exploring California with Christina and fulfilling a lifelong dream to travel to China.
Marriage brought her to this country from her beloved Denmark, however she retained close ties with her Danish family and with the culture. While living in Virginia, Hanne raised her two daughters and worked for the American ambassador to Denmark, teaching him to speak Danish. The family relocated to Pearl River, LA in 1979, and she later moved with her daughters to Baton Rouge, where she worked in retail until retiring in 2006. Never one to be idle, she continued to stay busy by volunteering at Ochsner (Summit) Medical Center and playing bridge in four different clubs. In her later years, she moved once again to be closer to her daughter Ingrid, in New Orleans.
There will be a visitation and memorial service from 10:30am till 1:00pm on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA.
