Donald Louis Bascle Sr., 89, left his beloved wife and soulmate of more than 50 years, Betty Jurisich Bascle, and his loving family, to join his Lord and Saviour on Friday, February 24, 2017. He was born Dec. 21, 1927 in New Orleans, the only child of Errol “Earl” and Abrica Bascle and was a resident of Metairie for most of his life. He was a child of the Depression who, at the age of 9, began selling seat cushions at Pelican Stadium and worked his way up to becoming a master electrician, retiring in 1989; he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 130) for 65 years. He was the grandson of NOPD Officer Selwyn Bergeron and Ailine Bergeron. He attended A.D. Crossman School, where his musical talent was discovered and he played first-chair trumpet, earning a place in the all-state band. He could croon a tune as well as Frank Sinatra and whistle like nobody’s business. He graduated from Warren Easton High School and attended Delgado Trade School to obtain his electrician’s license. He could build or fix anything and had boundless energy and a constantly sunny disposition. He was a wonderful cook who entertained his family at regular Sunday meals and at annual holiday gatherings, especially on Christmas Eve, when the family doors were open to all. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and playing golf. He was adored by his many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private Funeral Services will be held.
