Tribute

William “Billy” Louis Songy, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, husband, and friend, passed away at the age of 81 on July 15, 2022.  He was born January 17, 1941, in New Orleans, La and later became a long-time resident of Metairie, La.  Billy was a proud Marine and a retired casino host at Casino Magic/Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, Ms.  He was preceded in death by his parents Henry J. Songy, Jr., Myrna Rita Lacoste Songy, his brother Robert “Bobby” Songy, and his former spouse and mother of his children Mary Dunlap Songy.  Billy is survived by his 3 sisters Barbara Zuviceh, Bette Bertucci, and Bonnie Nicaud.  He is also survived by his 4 children Mark (Jolene) Songy, Stephen (Cheryl) Songy, Susan (Clint) Miller, and Beth Songy.  He was a devoted and wonderful grandfather to Tyler Miller, Rachel Songy Bernhard, CJ Miller, Caroline Songy, Lauren Songy, James Pons, Matthew Pons, and 1 great-grandson, Easton Picou.  He is also survived by his wife of over 25 years, Brenda Cooper, and their beloved dog, Gigi.  Billy could always be counted on for a good laugh and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.  His family was his world, and he will be sadly missed.  The family will receive friends Friday, July 29, 2022, from 9-11 AM at Jacob Schoen & Son funeral home located at 3827 Canal St. New Orleans, La 70119.  A Catholic funeral service will begin at 11 AM, followed by Interment at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Ave. New Orleans, La 70119.  To view the service via livestream and to sign the virtual register book, please visit www.schoenfh.com.
