Dear Donna and Lahners family:
I met Billy in 1965 at LA Judo School where we studied with out legendary teacher Jacques LeGrand. At that time he worked as tug boat captain out of Baton Rouge but would show up in New Orleans regularly and work out at the old club on Burgundy St. Billy was Jacques greatest student, exceptionally strong, left handed like his coach, and a formidable competitor. He was also very intelligent, funny, and liked to have a good time. Although I left LA I remained in touch and always remember the happy days of our youth in the beautiful city of New Orleans.
My sincerest love and condolences. Fred Colley, PhD

Billy was a classmate of mine at St.Raphael grammar school. I remember him as lively and fun to be around. He was a very special kid to have been remembered almost 70 years later. My condolences to his family.

There are no words to express how much we will miss Mr. Billy, his smile, his sense of humor, his intellect and will never forget all of the wonderful times we spent together. He was truly a good hearted man who was so enjoyable to be around and our hearts are broken about his passing. We know he is in heaven and at peace, smiling down taking pride in the remarkable children he raised and thankful to have been able to spend his life with his beautiful wife, both inside and out. I believe his advice to all of us would be, "hang in" and that's what we should all try to do never forgetting how he touched all of our hearts. Casey and Steve

Words cannot express the sadness of Billy's passing. He was a great storyteller and better friend. The world and the river will be a little less colorful without him.
All our love.
