Wayne Edward Garrett

Wayne Edward Garrett passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, after living a full life. He was born on June 17, 1950, and is survived by his siblings: Maynard Garrett, Jr. (Arden), Philip Garrett, James “Jimmy” Garrett (Cindy), Jean Michel Bruchis (Joseph “Joe”), and his partner Judy Buckley. He is also survived by ten loving nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and many friends who are like family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maynard Garrett, Sr. and Dorothy Charbonnet Garrett, as well as his beloved niece Erin Nancy Michel.

Wayne was a lifelong New Orleanian. He attended Jesuit High School and Tulane University, and practiced law for more than fifty years. If height could be a personality trait, Wayne had it. Standing tall at 6’8”, his personality was as big as his stature. He is remembered for his charm, wit, and love. Wayne always had an open door for those in his life who needed a listening ear and a laugh. A lover a good food and fine dining, Wayne revered “Friday lunch” as sacred. He was an avid reader, a talented basketball player, and enjoyed music and Jeopardy. Wayne will be forever remembered and loved by those who had the good fortune to call him a partner, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all those who have showed love to Wayne. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, November 18th, at 9:00 am at Jacob Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70119, with a funeral mass immediately following at 10:00 am.
