Theresa Bird

Theresa Totora Bird, born December 26, 1922, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Friday , September 21, 2018.  Theresa was a native of the Irish Channel and lived in Arabi from 1961 until Hurricane Katrina flooded her home, after which she relocated to Mandeville.  She was proud of her Sicilian heritage, was an excellent cook, and always put family first.  Her ready smile would light up the room. Preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Bird, her daughter, Dianne Bird May, her parents Anna and Russell Totora, and all 9 of her siblings, Josephine, Anthony, Phillip, Joe, Annie, Salvadora, Mary, Johnny, and Infant Totora.  Survived by her daughter, Lucy Bird Dwyer, her son-in-law Thomas Dwyer, her grandchildren Kevin May (Vera), Heather M. Roberts (Gavin), Scott Dwyer (Cindy), Chris Dwyer and Mark Dwyer and her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Sean, Colin, and Morgan Dwyer. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Brookdale Senior Living facility and Passages Hospice for the loving care shown Theresa during her final years.  Visitation on Saturday, September 29 Beginning at 10 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 1:30 P.M. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans.
