Shirley Josephine Troxler Olivier, 89, 1929-2018, was born to Sidney Troxler and Louisa Hillen. She was the second youngest of 6 siblings: Ethel Arseneaux (Earl), George Troxler, Sr. (Carolie), Lucille Boudreaux (Des), Edward Troxler, and Gloria Troxler. After World War II, she married the late Malcolm Philip Olivier. They had 4 children: Gwendolyn Marie Olivier, Ronald Gerard Olivier, Sr. (Kathleen), James Matthew Olivier (Dana) and Brenda Olivier Gremillion (Edward). They had 9 grandchildren: Nicole, Lance, Natalie, Ashley, Ron Jr., Kyle, Brent, Brandon and Chelsea. She had thirteen great-grandchildren. To help with family finances, she quit school to go work in her uncle’s grocery store at the age of 15. She worked at Dunn and Bradstreet until she quit to raise her children, but as they grew older, she returned to school to get a GED, a BA, and an MED. She taught grammar school while completing her education after which she taught English and History at several high schools in the New Orleans area. She retired from teaching to take care of her sick husband. They were deeply involved in New Orleans’ and Ponchatoula’s Catholic Charismatic Communities. She spent most of her life studying the Bible as allegory. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 12:30 pm in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, on Friday, September 28, 2018. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am and continue until Mass time. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Shirley’s name to Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
