Sheri Lee Newsome, 62, of New Orleans, LA passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021. She was born on July 21, 1958 in South Williamson, KY and enjoyed a happy and loving childhood. Her beautiful smile and personality charmed all who met her. She graduated from Purdue University in 1981 with a degree in design and marketing. Her career in commercial design took her to Phoenix and Atlanta. Later, she discovered a passion for antique refinishing and architectural renovation in Tallahassee.
Recently, Sheri had found a peaceful, creative life in New Orleans, surrounded by supportive friends. She enjoyed her work in the tour industry and painted in mixed media focusing on the distinct architectural elements of the city. Her gifts and passions are seen in her beautiful art, admired by friends and family as well as the greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge communities.
She is survived by her loving parents, Velt and Suzanne Newsome, her brothers and sisters, Jim (Liz), Wes (Susan), Dee (Tom), along with several nieces and nephews, and her biggest gift to this world, Austin (all of the Atlanta area). May she forever rest in peace, free from all pain and suffering, in the arms of our heavenly Father.
A family celebration of her life will be held on May 1 in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans (no-hunger.org; 700 Edwards Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70123).
