Shelton William Mulkey, Jr. went home to live in the House of the Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2019 at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband of Merle Massel Mulkey for more than 57 years.  He was a loving father to his four children Shelton W. Mulkey, III (Lori), Sheri Mulkey Lang (Chris), Scott Mulkey and Shannon Mulkey d’Hemecourt (Ed). He was the proud grandfather of Shelton W. Mulkey, IV, Katelyn Mulkey, Cassandra Mulkey, Brittany Lang Pellow (Edward), Cory Lang, Darbi Mulkey, Dawson Mulkey, Devyn Mulkey, Delaney Mulkey, Sarah d’Hemecourt and Eddie d’Hemecourt. He will also be missed by his sisters and brothers Judy Mulkey Triche (Ronnie), Gay Mulkey Torian, Ray Mulkey, Woodrow Mulkey (Cheryl), Thomas Mulkey, Leo Mulkey, Sr. and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shelton was preceded in death by his parents Eula Boudreaux Mulkey and Shelton Mulkey, Sr. and his siblings Madeline Mulkey Jones, Jack Mulkey, Sr, Donald Mulkey, Sr, William Mulkey, Sr and Yvonne Mulkey.
Shelton was a native of Kenner and a resident of Mandeville. He was a proud member of the East Jefferson Class of 1958, and he always enjoyed reminiscing with his friends and family about the wonderful times they had growing up. After high school, Shelton served as a medic in the United States Air Force Reserves and he was the Assistant Chief of the City of Kenner Fire Department until his retirement. He was the Past President of the Kenner Volunteer Fire Association, Past President on the Kenner Fire Fighters Union and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Before moving to the Northshore, Shelton enjoyed time coaching football at Westgate Playground for the City of Kenner Parks and Recreation Department.
Shelton was a family man who loved nothing more than to come and fix any problem. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119 on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 12:15 PM with visitation from 10:00 AM until the Mass time.
