It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts we share the news that Rosemary (Rose) Purpura Carollo, 89, was called to rest into the arms of our Lord on November 28, 2018 with her only son Gerard by her side. She was born on January 29, 1930 in the French Quarter. She was educated at St. Mary’s Italian School, and later at Holy Angels. She met with love of her life, Michael Carollo, at Pontchartrain Beach initially, and after a later chance encounter onboard the Riverboat S.S. President, solidified their union which was to last for 72 years. Rose was a devout, dedicated, and observant member of the Catholic Church, and a longtime parishioner of St. Maurice. Rose enjoyed excellent health for 88 years before it began to fail her recently. As she became weak, God saw her struggle and called her home. She was loved deeply, and will be intensely missed, even as we rejoice in her salvation. Rose was pre-deceased by and will be reunited in heaven with her parents, Vincent and Vada Culotta Purpura, her daughter-in-law, Cathy Carollo, and sister/brother-in-law, Betty and Sammy Carollo, as well as five little angels she lost due to miscarriage. She is survived by her loving husband Michael Carollo (WWII European Theater veteran), son Gerard, grandchildren Angelle (Albert) Carollo Terry and Vincent Carollo (Amanda); great grandchildren Landon Carollo, Noah Carollo, and Zephyr Terry (born five days prior to her death). Also survived by sister and brother in law Sarah and Sal Serio, nieces, nephews and cousins Gloria Badeaux and Roy Purpura. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass at 12:15 pm on Monday, December 10, 2018 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in St. Vincent de Paul #3 Cemetery.
