Roland Joseph McDowell III

Roland (Mac) McDowell died at his home on Friday, June 30, 2018. He was the son of Janice Scallan McDowell and the late Roland J. McDowell, Jr. His grandparents were the late Roland J. McDowell, Sr. and Ethel Frilot McDowell, and Ura Goudeau and Walter J. Scallan. He was the brother of Janice McDowell and Rick Hopton, Mark A. and Donna Lynn, and the late Donald P. and Donna A. McDowell. He will be sadly missed by his nephews Kyle (Alyssa) and Bryce Hopton (his Godchild), Cole Thomas, and his great nieces Aubrey and Myla. Also missing him will be his Aunts, Uncles, cousins, his fellow longshoremen, and many friends.

He was known to his friends as Mac. He was a graduate of Redemptorist High School where he played football, and was a member of the choir. He was a kind and loving soul who took care of those he loved and never turned down anyone in need. His love of animals is evident by his many snakes, chickens, and turtles, and a newly delivered goat. He was a member of International Longshoremens Association Local 3000 for 28 years.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will also be held Friday, July 6, 2018 starting at 11 a.m., followed by a service at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will follow immediately at St. Patrick Cemetery #1.
