Robert (Bob) H. Stryjewski died at 81 in New Orleans, LA on July 1, 2021.
Bob is the son of the late Joseph and Julia Stryjewski and brother of the late Joseph Jr. He is survived by his wife; Mary Louise, his children; Stephen (Janine) and Laura (Imtiaz) and his grandchildren; Penelope, Eleanore, Zoe, Kaleb, and Maya.
Bob was born and raised in Uniondale, New York and served as an officer in the U.S. Army for 30 years retiring as a Colonel. Bob served two tours in Vietnam as an Artillery Battalion Advisor and Battery Commander for the 319th Field Artillery Battalion and the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He served in Korea as an Executive Officer with the 2nd Battalion 17th Field Artillery. He then commanded the 1st Battalion 321st Field Artillery, the 101st Airborne Division, and the 212th Field Artillery Brigade. Towards the end of his active duty service he became the Project Manager for Electronic Warfare Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition Systems and then the Program Executive Officer of Intelligence and Electronic Warfare until his retirement from the Army in 1991. His military awards and honors included the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Post active duty he was a professor for 22 years at the Defense Systems Management College in Arlington, VA before fully retiring in 2013.
As a resident of Northern VA, Bob was a member of the Army Navy Country Club, where he played golf with the “Dew Crew” for many years. He was a current events enthusiast, a skilled woodworker, and an attentive gardener. Bob enjoyed crafting beautiful furniture and sold handmade cutting boards at his son’s butcher shop. A lifelong NY Giants fan, in 2017, Bob moved to New Orleans to be closer to family and inevitably joined the “Who Dat Nation” as a Saints fan. While living in New Orleans Bob proudly attended all of his grandkids' performances, art exhibitions, and sporting events. He continued playing golf at English Turn Country Club and also volunteered at the Veterans Hospital and the National World War II Museum. Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
