Tribute

Rita May Curtis Vesich, a native of New Orleans, LA where she resided for the past 91 years, passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2021 with her family beside her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Frances Curtis, Sr.; her mother, Eula Lee Soles Curtis; her husband, Anthony “Tony” Joseph Vesich, Jr.; her son, Anthony Joseph “A.J.” Vesich, III; and her brother, Ernest Frances Curtis, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Lucy Vesich Schultz, son-in-law, Darryl Michael Schultz both of New Orleans and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Zeringue Vesich of Thibodaux, LA.
She was the beloved “MawMaw” of three grandsons: Anthony J. “Jay” Vesich, IV (Brittany), Douglas Matthew Schultz and Peter James Vesich; and two granddaughters: Mary Vesich Phuphanich (Champ) and Rachel Schultz Horne (Thomas); Godsons Lawrence Neil Curtis, Paul Damian Curtis, Michael Keith Manguno, and the late Raymond Joseph Giacontiere, Jr.; five great-grandchildren: Alexandra Grace and Julian Major Phuphanich; and Ava Claire, Liam Joseph, and Logan Andrew Vesich; eight beloved nieces and nephews. She spent her life a proud and doting wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
Known for her love of God and her Catholic faith, her quick wit, and her fashion sense, she enjoyed traveling, music, attending plays and sporting events, and reveling for many years in the activities of the Endymion carnival organization. She had a competitive spirit which was evident when playing cards and board games with family and friends. She was the consummate hostess opening her heart and home to many who filled them with a lifetime of fond and humorous memories. In addition to her family, she served the community well. For much of her adult life, she was actively involved in local political campaigns and elections. She was an active supporter of the Ladies’ Leukemia League, a committed adorer at St. Pius X’s Adoration Chapel, a member of the Alliance for Good Government, and served as a board member of the New Orleans City Park Improvement Association.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation beginning at 5:00 PM on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. 
On Friday, July 2, 2021 family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124.
