Rebecca J. Patterson passed away on January 30, 2021 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Mandeville, LA at 8:30 am due to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was born on July 9, 1957, the youngest of seven siblings. She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Mae Abram Patterson, father Earl Hewitt Patterson, and eldest sister Faye Marie Hoover Garner. She is survived by her sisters Gayle Ann Hoover Rottmann, Elaine Patterson Johnson, and Janie Patterson Smith, and her brothers, Edwin Louis Hoover, Jr, and Melvin Patterson, their spouses, her Godchildren Patrick and Philip Nguyen, and many adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She endures as the beloved mother of Courtney Nicole Patterson Soliman and grandmother to two beautiful grandchildren, Gabriel Joseph Soliman and Evianna Grace Soliman.
She retired from a long career at the University of New Orleans in 2012 and spent her remaining time loving her life. She cherished memories made traveling to many destinations near and abroad with family and friends. She enjoyed watching birds in the morning, singing along to Adele, and eating at new restaurants. She was called the Animal Whisperer by her closest friend as she had an affinity for rescuing stray animals and providing them with love and a good home. She had a lifelong passion for collecting gemstones and minerals which she shared with many of her loved ones. Above all, she loved her daily ride to the corner to get her grandbabies from the school bus.
She was easy to speak with and quick to smile, and everyone who knew her was blessed by her warmth, friendship, and laughter. The world is left a little colder without her light burning in it. Those who knew her best know that she departed this world because she simply could not accept Biden as President. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at 11:00 am on Friday, February 5, 2021 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until Service time. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com.
