Paul David Carey

October 18, 1952 ~ December 27, 2020 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Tribute

Paul David “Dave” Carey was born October 18, 1952, to the late Paul Eugene Carey of Pittsburgh, PA and the late Vivian Pilgrim Carey of Beaver Falls, PA. He departed this life Sunday, December 27, 2020, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. With his loving wife Barbara by his side, he bravely endured the myriad of treatments and procedures with endless optimism. God blessed him with minimal complications until the last three months of his two-and-a-half year battle. Guardian Angel Hospice is greatly appreciated for making his last days on earth as comfortable and peaceful as possible.
Dave had a lifelong passion for working with cars—a passion he shared with his brother Mike. Together, they owned a neighborhood auto repair shop in Gentilly for over forty years. They also pursued their passions of restoring classic cars, traveling the country to compete in ISCA car shows as well as competing in NHRA racing events.
The most gratifying travels for Dave though, were his visits to Florida to see his daughter, Melissa and grandchildren, Paul and Monica. Naturally, he fixed up a car and drove it to Florida to give to Melissa after she graduated high school. He was proud to attend graduations and loved celebrating birthdays, Christmases, weddings and New Years with them. He thoroughly enjoyed and treasured just relaxing with his beautiful family on those sandy beaches.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Barbara Hemstreet Carey; daughter, Melissa Anne Westerby and husband Matt; grandson, Gregory Paul Carey and husband Vincent Riccio; granddaughter, Monica Leigh Gregg and fiance’ Brandon Yero; brother, Michael Leroy Carey and fiancée Sylvia Loyd; cousin, Diane Lee Bradley and husband Dennis. Dave is also survived by numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, other relatives and friends
Under his gruff façade, Dave had a gentle and loving heart for which he will forever be remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 3:30 PM-7 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119.
