Welcome to the memorial page for

Paul L. Cammack MD

July 15, 1952 ~ June 11, 2017 (age 64) 64 Years Old
Paul L. Cammack MD, age 64, of Montgomery, AL, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2017.

Dr. Cammack was born in New Orleans, LA, graduated from Auburn University, and completed medical school and general surgery residency from University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before leaving for medical school, he fell in love with a nurse named Nora Emerson at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, and they married at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama in 1977.
Dr. Cammack and his young family of four moved to NJ for his fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at University of Pennsylvania, before they returned to Montgomery, where he practiced cardiovascular and thoracic surgery for over 30 years.  Dr. Cammack performed the first open heart surgery at Baptist Medical Center South in 1995. He led a life of service, never turning away treatment for anyone in need and visiting his patients 7 days a week, 365 days a year. He cared deeply for his patients and staff.
A devoted father and husband, Dr. Cammack had a quick wit and dry humor that kept his family laughing to the end. He was also a voracious reader with an extensive library, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, and was an “Auburn man.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Beasley Cammack, of Kosciusko, MS.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Nora Emerson Cammack; mother, Lois V.; brothers, Jack (Jo) and Roy (Rayna); sisters, Jane (Jeff) Douglass and Mary (Kevin) Gardner; children, Patrick (Kate) and Monica (Ryan); and grandson, Jack Hudson.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 16th at 10am preceded by a 9am rosary service and visitation from 9:15am – 10am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 219 Adams Ave, Montgomery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Holy Spirit Parish, Montgomery Cancer Center, or Baptist Hospice.
