Norma Bustamante

Norma “Mima” Bustamante departed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the age of 91. Mima, as she was known to her friends and family, lived a full, happy and loved filled life. Born in Nicaragua, Mima came to New Orleans in 1960. While she did not have children of her own, Mima was a mother to many including her nieces and nephews, Marta Bou-Mikael and Leda Lindsey, Rudy, Dewey, Mario and Gilbert Bustamante, Carmen Sanabria, and her great nephews and nieces, Khalil, Saade, and Youssef Bou-Mikael; Tara, Kristi, and Timmy Lindsey, Jacklyn Troxclair, Andrea and Jose Sanabria; Dewey, Stefan, and Marcella Bustamante, and her several great-great nieces and nephews. 

Mima spent her life trying to make this world a better place, devoting herself to her Catholic faith and working with the local Hispanic Catholic community at Mensaje. She loved dogs, her family, and her friends. She loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited many countries including Italy, the Holy Land, the Vatican, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Mexico as well as travel throughout the United States.

Mima was predeceased by her mother, Maria Guzman, her father, Rodolfo Bustamante, her brother Gustavo Bustamante, and her sisters Dolores and Vilma Bustamante. She is survived by her sister, Socorro Zeringue , sister-in-law Maura Bustamante, and her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom love her very much. Heaven has gained an angel, but as Mima would say, “Don’t worry be happy.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 12:15 PM on Saturday, April 30, 2022in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM.
