It is with great sorrow that the family of Miguel Eusebio Alvarez announces his passing at the age of 84 on Monday, July 11, 2022 at his home in Metaire, Louisiana. Miguel died peacefully with his beloved wife Miriam by his side.
Miguel is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Miriam Ros Alvarez, his children Mike Alvarez and his wife Jane, Barbara May, Olga Duclaux and her husband Duane , Mary Rotondi and her husband Peter, his grandchildren Brandy Alvarez, Travis Alvarez, Isabella Rotondi, Ian Rotondi, Caitlin Alvarez, Matthew Alvarez and Michaela Alvarez and a sister Gladys Alvarez. Miguel was preceded by his parents, Adeliada Angulo Alvarez of Cuba and Miguel Alvarez y Alvarez of Spain.
Miguel was born in Camaguey, Cuba and came to this country in 1967 after serving at the US naval base in Guantanamo as Machine Shop Supervisor. After a short stay in Chicago working for Parker Hannafin, he moved with his family to New Orleans, a city he loved because he said it so often reminded him of Cuba. He worked at Avondale Shipyards before becoming an entrepreneur, opening the first Latin supermarket on the Westbank. He also founded A & C Machine & Mfg, which served the oilfield industry, and MACO Precision Mfg, which served the defense industry.
Miguel was a devoted family man who was quick with a joke or a poem recital from his formative days at the Salesian School of Arts and Sciences in Santiago de Cuba from which he graduated in 1961. His love, his laugh, his devotion to family will be sadly missed by his family and those who knew him.
