April 29, 1956 ~ October 6, 2020 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Tribute

Michael passed away at his home on October 6, 2020 with his family and friends sharing their love. Michael loved life and his family. He was the third son of 8 kids and turned out to be a leader. Michael was a master woodworker. His business became an art form. Wood was precious to him. The New Orleans Saints were also precious to him. Hirsch Memorial Stadium became a one of a kind place to be. Michael loved New Orleans and all of its culture and music. He was a dancer and a dreamer, a husband and a father. He never turned a shoulder to people and helped all that he could. Ain’t no other than Michael Hirsch. A naturally New Orleans legend.

Michael was born in the Bronx, NY in 1956. His family moved down south spending some time growing up in Chattanooga, TN before their final move to New Orleans. He attended McMain High School. He became a self-taught woodworker and started his own business. He married Kathy in 1985. This year would be their 35th wedding anniversary. In 1996 he had his son, Griffin. During this time he had four memorable dogs to those who knew him – Astro, Cedar, Norton and Rey. He enjoyed traveling, sailing, antique automobiles and parading. He was a member of the Krewe of Screw, Krewe du Vieux and the Krewe of Palmyra.

His nickname “Indian Red” was bestowed upon him by Big Chief Jolly as a young teenager hanging out with the Nevilles and the Mardi Gras Indians. Since he was freckled on his face, the Big Chief called him Red – Indian Red. And he won’t bow down.

Michael is survived by his wife Kathy Marchese Hirsch and his son Griffin. His brothers Leon (Lodia), Brian and Marvin. His sisters Dawn D’Aquin, Sharon (Phillip LeGrande) and Maya (Marc Glorioso). Newphews and nieces - Abe D’aquin – Lizzy and twin girls Lyra and Iris, Bobbie Jean and Barry (deceased), Chazz D’Aquin ( Megan, Paisley and Cole), Paul Glorioso (Shelby and Parker) Savannah Barbee (Trevor and Eloise), Nick Hamilton (Kelli, Bella and Jackson) Chance, Caige, Cashe (Kasen and Karleigh) and Callie. Also many very good friends.
