Mary Kate Danna

Mary Kate Del Valle Danna, a life-long New Orleans resident, died peacefully, Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the home of her daughter. She was 87 years old, an age that never ceased to amaze her.

Ms. Danna, known as Katie, was a vivacious, quick witted and loving red head, who was outgoing and friendly with a “Hello my darling” for those lucky enough to encounter her. Always enthusiastic about a parade, she loved Mardi Gras each and every year.

Ms. Danna is survived by her children: daughters Debbi Danna Melancon (Britt), Mary Beth Danna Guarisco, Tricia King (Charlie) and son Jay Clifford Danna. Affectionately known as Granny, she is also survived by five grandchildren: Meghan Melancon Martinez, Christine Catherine Danna, Michael Clifford Danna, Scott Charles King and Christian Monsted King. As well as three great grandchildren. She had boundless love for her family and was a loyal friend. She was a devoted and loving grandmother whose grandchildren were her pride and joy. She also was an Aunt to Karen Del Valle Tampira (Tom), whose father, James Del Valle, was her brother and preceded her in death. She was considered an aunt to the children of her two life -long best friends: Rosemary Hirt Rost and the deceased, Marion Toole Hosli. She was loved and known by the many friends she had from all walks of life.

A long -time advocate for the rights of others, Ms. Danna spent a number of years in the 1990s, volunteering Project Lazarus.  She was also a member of Les Dames de St. Dominique.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary Kate’s life at Jacob  Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street on Thursday, October 4 with a visitation beginning at 9:30am followed by a service at 12:15 P.M. in the J. Garic Schoen chapel with music sung by Arthine Powers. Piano by Jim Walpole. Burial will be private.
