Dr. Mario Renato McNally, 75, of Metairie, Louisiana, entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Friday, April 22, 2022. Dr. McNally was born in Managua, Nicaragua on May 3, 1946, and lived in the greater New Orleans area for over 50 years. He retired from medicine in December 2019.  He graduated from La Universidad Autonoma de Nicaragua in1969 and moved to the United States to continue his post graduate studies in New Orleans, Louisiana and Birmingham, Alabama where he met and married his wife Carmen Maria Palacios on December 3, 1976. He served both as an assistant, clinical instructor, and medical staff early in his career and then moved to both private and solo practice. Retiring as a partner with the Internal Medicine Specialists, Multispecialty Group after 20 years. Dr. McNally held several honors/positions including Chapter President of Tri state chapter American Association Clinical Endocrinology, Medical director of the Diabetes Treatment Center at Touro Infirmary, member of the medical executive committee at Touro Infirmary, Tulane University Medicine clinical professor, and associate professor at Louisiana State University. He was a fellow and member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, American College of Physicians, Louisiana State Medical Society, and Endocrine Society with triple board certification in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Endocrinology and Metabolism. He could often be found throughout the halls of Touro Infirmary and was best known for his compassionate bedside manner and sense of humor touching the lives of thousands of patients. A devout Catholic whose greatest passion was serving others through medicine and being a faithful husband, father, Tata, uncle, and friend. When his children were young, he enjoyed taking them to do rounds at Touro Infirmary. On the weekends and as a retired grandfather, he loved going to his second home in Gulf Shores Alabama and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. He and his wife were world travelers visiting Turkey, Portugal, Israel, France, Petra, Greece, Spain, England, Nicaragua, and Mexico.
Dr. Mario was survived by his wife of 45 years Carmen McNally; children, Olga del Carmen McNally (Antron Jones) of Charleston, SC; Mario Renato McNally, Jr of Phoenix, AZ; and Marcella Carolina Perino (Salvatore) of Metairie, LA; Grandchildren; Gabriel Conlin, Sophia Perino, Sammy Perino, and Dominick Perino; His siblings; Yadira McNally de Murillo (Rafael), Olga Maritza McNally Meza (Denis), Ivania McNally de Boza (Edwin), Ninoska McNally (Jorge), and Jairo McNally (Ofelia). Preceded in death by his parents Renato McNally and Olga Blandino de McNally, and brother Renato McNally.
The family will receive friends Thursday April 28, 2022, at Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119 beginning at 9:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel at 11:00 AM and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the American Cancer Society or American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.
