Maria Garcia Daly

María Garcia Daly went home to her heavenly father on Friday, August 3rd, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old. She was the loving wife of William J. Daly who preceded her in death. Maria was born on September 20, 1925 in Mugardos, La Coruña, Spain. She came to the United States, and attended Newcomb College, graduating with a degree in Music and French. Maria was the daughter of María Acebo Plana and Santiago Dopico García and the loving mother of María Page (John), Janet McGrew (Jim), William Daly (Theresa), Margaret Landry (Keith), and John Daly (Karen). She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: James Page, David Page, Anne Elizabeth McGrew, Will McGrew, Elizabeth Daly, Patrick Daly, Cate Daly, Christopher (Rieko) Landry, Stephen Landry, Caroline Daly, Jack Daly and Meg Daly. Her sister Rosita García Reisig and brother Santiago García both predeceased her. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. After college, María worked at the Spanish Consulate, serving in several capacities and receiving various awards from the Spanish government for her service.  María was active in the community, volunteering with many organizations, including the New Orleans Museum of Art, Children of Mary, Tulane University Women's Association, and Tulane University Medical School.  She was a founding member of The Spanish Society/ La Sociedad Española, where she served as president for several years. The family extends their deepest gratitude to María Elena Zaldivar, Antoinette LaVigne-Busby, Leola Elmore, and Earlene Vinnett for their kind and loving care.
Visitation will be at 11a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 noon on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 St. Charles Avenue.  Interment will follow the mass at St. Patrick Cemetery No. 3.
