Sister Peggy (Margaret Therese) Hill, OSU, died peacefully at Chateau de Notre Dame Nursing Home, New Orleans, LA, on May 14, 2021. The daughter of Arthur Bernard Hill and Irene Elizabeth McLean Hill, she was born on April 25, 1935, in Teaneck, New Jersey. Besides her parents, all but one of her siblings have preceded her in death. They were her twin brother Paul, brothers Richard, Gerald, William, Robert, and Arthur and sisters Colleen Carmichael and Jeanne Marie Minnick. She is survived by her sister Mary Pat (Charlie) Liggio and by many nieces and nephews and their children.
Sister Peggy’s family moved to Dallas, TX, where she received her secondary education at Ursuline Academy, graduating in May of 1953. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in that summer and professed her first vows in January of l956. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle, NY, and Master’s degrees from Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH, and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, NY. Her first teaching assignment was in the elementary and secondary departments of Ursuline Academy, New Orleans, from 1959-65, where she was known as Mother Madeline Marie; after this she became principal at St. Patrick’s elementary school in Galveston, TX. Other places of ministry were San Antonio and Dallas, TX, and interprovincial service in Thailand and Mexico.
In the fall of 2018, Sr. Peggy moved to Chateau de Notre Dame Apartments in New Orleans until she became ill and transferred to the nursing wing of the facility.
A Memorial Mass will be held for Sr. Peggy at the National Votive Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, New Orleans, sometime in late summer or early fall. Burial will be with the Ursuline Sisters in Calvary Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
