Maebelle Seghers

December 7, 1938 ~ May 31, 2021 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

Mae Belle Seghers, who once skied Mt. Rainier, strolled on the Great Wall, and dined in Europe's greatest cities, died Monday, May 31, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She was 82. Mae Belle loved her hometown of New Orleans and spent a lifetime in and around her city, enjoying its rich culture and tradition, its food and bon vivant lifestyle, and, of course, its Saints. It was a full life, shared with her late husband Donald Paul Seghers. They met while she attended St. Mary's Dominican High School, where she graduated in 1956. The next four years, she attended Louisiana State University, walking away with degrees in Spanish and German, and a love of international travel.

After graduating, Mae Belle joined Don in Tacoma, WA, where they married in 1961 -- a union that ended when he passed away in 2016. Mae Belle is predeceased by her parents Gerald Michael Smith and Mae Belle Danaher Smith, and by siblings Gerald Michael Smith Jr. and Michele Smith Adams. She is survived by her brother, Michael Danaher Smith, her two children, Mae Belle Seghers Maurin (Chris) and Mark Danaher Seghers, three grandchildren, Mae Belle, Mika, and Hans, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.

Visitation will be 4-5:30 p.m.Thursday June 10 at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Michael Special School, 1522 Chippewa Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130.
