Luther Carl Broome Jr.

May 8, 1940 ~ October 6, 2021 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Luther Carl Broome, Jr. (fondly known as “Mop” by many), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, after a lengthy battle with several illnesses. He was 81 years old. Son of the late Luther and Myrtis Crowe Broome, Sr. and brother of Mary Jentoft (E.J.) who all preceded him in death. Born in Mississippi, but truly a love for New Orleans, which he called his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 wonderful years, Mary Elizardi Broome; fond brother-in-law Dimiter Bocskov (and the late Anne Elizardi Bocskov); his niece Ryan Galapia (Carl); nephews Peter Bocskov (Cheryl) and Charles (Nick) O’Dell, Jr. (Michelle); loving cousins Bondelee Schruff, Cathy Hearty (James), Paula Farrell (Sidney), Jimmy de Blanc (Randy Chauvin), Chesney Loeb (David) and Renee Miller (Mark) and his beloved companion “Coco”.
Luther belonged to the SSVDL and participated in the Italian American Marching Club St. Joseph’s Day Parades. Luther was a parishioner of Lakeview Presbyterian Church until his illness made it difficult for him to regularly attend services any longer. Luther was employed at Modern Flooring and Interiors for over 40 years until his retirement, and as Luther was, he continued to “work” after his retirement. Modern Flooring was his home away from home, his second family – OUR second family.
We wish to thank all of Luther’s Ochsner doctors, nurses and care providers for taking such good care of him over the years during his illnesses. We extend our gratitude for the special care provided by Hospice Associates during these past few weeks leading up to his passing and making sure that Luther was comfortable and in no pain.
Visitation and funeral services will be celebrated at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street in New Orleans on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM and funeral services immediately following. Luther will be interred in the family tomb at St. Patrick #2 Cemetery, 5000 Canal Street, New Orleans.
