Louis Alfred Diemert

August 16, 1935 ~ February 14, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Louis Alfred Diemert passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the age of 85. A New Orleans native, Louis was born to the late John Charles Diemert and Irene Fanguy Diemert. Following his graduation from Warren Easton High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged in 1958, he returned to New Orleans, enrolling at Louisiana State University at New Orleans (now University of New Orleans) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Business. His career path took him to various states including Texas, Alabama, Missouri and New Jersey and even out of the country, working and living in both Saudi Arabia and Germany. These overseas stints gave him the opportunity to travel the world with his family and they enjoyed many adventures together over four continents. Louis always returned to his beloved hometown and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District in 1995.
A cautious risk taker, Louis was never too scared to drink coffee past 2 PM and in fact, you could find him brewing a pot of his favorite beverage well into the nighttime hours. A genuine news buff, Louis enjoyed keeping up with current events of the world. He loved 24 hour cable news, as well as watching Saints football and laughing as his team let him down year after year (not including the 2009 season). Trained by the Navy as a photographer, Louis carried a love of photography throughout his days. Louis was also a dedicated amateur genealogist and traced his family history back to France and the 18th century. His research enabled a trip to the tiny French village his ancestors migrated from. Louis will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Maria and their children: Louis Diemert, Christina Gilbert and husband, Jeremy and Lisa Fisher and husband Michael. Also survived by his beloved grandchildren Isabella, Owen and Olivia Gilbert and Amelia Fisher.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 3101 Eton Street, New Orleans, LA 70131. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, with a eulogy at 10:45 AM, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 AM. Arrangements entrusted to Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home.
