Lillian McGovern Reed, retired Tourism Coordinator for the City Of Kenner, died on August 24, 2018, at the age of 90. She was the devoted wife of James Emmanuel Reed from 1947 until his death in 2008.  Daughter of the late James D. McGovern and the late Lillian Helm McGovern, and sister to the late Hildegarde McGovern, the late James D. McGovern Jr., and the late Milton James McGovern (and the late Mary Hollis).

Born in New Orleans and a resident of Kenner since 1951. She graduated valedictorian from Sacred Heart High School in 1944 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Orleans in 1981. Lillian was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Kenner, an Extraordinary Minister of Communion at OLPH since 1982, and later chaired the group for 33 years. She was a core member of “The Way, the Truth and the Life” Monday night prayer group at her church, and an Assigned Visitor to the Adoration Chapel.

Known as “Maw-Maw” to her family, she had a love of the performing arts and spent her life dancing and teaching dance. She was a season ticket holder to Rivertown Theater, enjoyed jazz music, embraced everything about the city of New Orleans, and at one time was a tour guide. She loved writing, research, history and a great pun.

Her greatest love was her family. Survivors include her loving children - James Andrew, Peter (Marina Gonzalez), Elodie Reed Bonck (Donald), Michael Henry (Darlene Bode), Daniel Anthony (Penny Johnson), David Raymond (Natalia Forside), and John Arthur.
