October 23, 1941 ~ November 13, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Lawrence Milton Tabony, Jr.  passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2022, surrounded by his family, at the age of 81. Lawrence was born to the late Lawrence Sr. and Helen Tabony of Bohemia, Louisiana on October 23, 1941.  He was a native of Pointe ala Hache, Louisiana, and resided in Belle Chasse, Louisiana for the past 18 years.

Lawrence graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1959 and then received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in 1965. He started his professional career at the Electro Coal Transfer Corporation in Davant, Louisiana. From there he went on to work for the Plaquemines Parish Government and retired in 2014 from the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he held the title of Chief Deputy Tax Collector for more than 20 years. He was an original investor in Mississippi River Bank and served on their Board of Directors as Vice Chairman for 40 years. He was also a proud Master Mason and Shriner since 1963, a member of the Krewe of Alla, and was an avid financial supporter of Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the National WWII Museum, and countless others.

Lawrence married his beautiful wife, Sara Ponce, on April 19, 1969, in Pointe ala Hache, Louisiana.  Lawrence was a family man and always prioritized them above everything else.  As a dad he was generous, loving, and kind. Upon the arrival of his grandchildren an overwhelming sense of love, pride, and joy filled his heart. He took extreme pride in showering his eight grandchildren with love and affection. To see their happiness and hear their laughter brought him immense joy. He was an avid watcher of old war movies, never turned down a good steak, and could often be found sitting outside feeding the neighborhood squirrels. Lawrence’s most notable trademarks were his genuine smile and his signature cigar.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Sara Tabony. During their 53 years of marriage, they raised four loving children – Kate Tabony Rose, Lawrence M Tabony III (Blythe), Michael Tabony (Brooke), and John Tabony (Rachel), all of whom continue to emulate his love of family. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Lena Tabony, Morgan Tabony, Lawrence M “Bubby” Tabony IV, Madison Tabony, Addison Tabony, John Tabony Jr., Scarlett Tabony-Rose, and Parker Tabony. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan Becnel and Mary Ann Meyers. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Helen Tabony, and his son-in-law, Mike Rose.
