Lawrence Joseph Springer

February 9, 1936 ~ December 30, 2018 (age 82)
Lawrence Joseph Springer, 82, died December 30, 2018. He is survived by his beloved wife of
59 years, Marie Ernestine Ellender Springer, and his four children: Lawrence J. Springer Jr.
(Dell), Dr. Michael A. Springer (Vicki), Dr. Amy Springer and Kathleen Springer Stukenborg
(Steve), nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, a sister, Carol Hidalgo (Martin), and a
brother, James Springer (Kay), and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Francis Springer and Genevieve Clifford
Larry was a graduate of Loyola Law School and practiced law for 50 years in the New Orleans
area. He was instrumental in establishing the perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at Holy
Name of Jesus Parish. He volunteered at the Hainkel Home and was a Eucharistic minister at
Holy Name Church and Touro Infirmary Hospital. He was awarded the Order of St. Louis medal
for his work in the Catholic Church. He appreciated life in New Orleans. He was a member of
several carnival organizations including Prophets of Persia and Caliphs of Cairo, and also
enjoyed the Essex and Bienville clubs.
His enthusiastic personality and his broad, warm smile will be greatly missed by his loving family
and countless friends who enjoyed his good humor and wonderful stories. He truly loved life.
He was always there for his children and grandchildren and adored his wife. He never lost that
certain look in his eye when he regarded her - as if still incredulous at his good fortune.
Visitation will be from 9am to 11am Friday, January 4, 2019 at Holy Name of Jesus Church,
followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial will be at 2pm in St Francis Cemetery No. 2, at the
6100 block West Main St, Houma, LA 70360.
