Kenneth Louis Wegener

Kenneth Louis Wegener, 71, died on Saturday April 14, 2018 of complications from diabetes. Ken was a native of New Orleans and resided in Metairie since 2005. He fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a Lutheran school teacher, with 40 years of teaching service. He taught 1 year at St. Andrews Lutheran in Park Ridge, IL. Following graduation from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL, he was called as principal/teacher for 11 years at Bethel Lutheran in Dallas, TX. In 1980, he accepted a call to return to his beloved New Orleans, and taught for 28 years at St. Paul (First English) Lutheran School. Ken was very active in his service to the Lord as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He loved New Orleans and was a member of Save Our Cemeteries, Friends of the Cabildo, the National WW2 Museum, Crescent City Doubloon Traders, and was a volunteer docent at the 1850 House. Ken is survived by his siblings Ronald (Dale), Janice Simpson (Jerald), Merrill, and Stephen (Frances). He is preceded in death by his parents Martin A. Wegener and Elizabeth O. Wegener. Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2624 Burgundy St., New Orleans on Saturday April 21, 2018 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 PM. Additional time for visitation and light refreshments will follow the service. Private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
