Kathleen Dorothy O'Reilly Varrecchio
September 14, 1938 ~ May 14, 2023 (age 84) 84 Years Old
Kathleen Dorothy O’Reilly Varrecchio passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Sunday, May 14, 2023 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic J. Varrecchio; her parents, Dorothy Nick and Harold J. O’Reilly, Sr; her brother, Harold J. O’Reilly, Jr, and sister, Eileen O’Reilly Ulfers Thompson.
Mother of Dominic “Nick” Varrecchio (Kelley), John Varrecchio (Gayle Meade), Angela Varrecchio (David Marinaccio), and Frank Varrecchio. Beloved Grandmother of Rachel Varrecchio and Kaitlin Varrecchio. She was a loving aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews and their children.
A native of New Orleans, Kathleen graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1956, with friendships made there lasting her entire life. She enjoyed New Orleans culture and looked forward to Mardi Gras, gatherings with her family, and especially catching a cabbage at the Irish Parades each and every year.
An original lifelong East Banker, in recent years she lived on the West Bank at the St. Joseph Apartments in Gretna where she enjoyed many friendships and camaraderie with friends old and new.
Kathleen proudly and lovingly adored her children, grandchildren and extended family, truly enjoyed watching Law & Order and following our local and national news, reading the Times-Picayune daily, and sharing vigorous discussion of events. She loved playing Scrabble and other games with family and friends - often running rings around her younger competitors. An avid bargain hunter and collector, she had a great sense of humor, quick wit and so many friends.
She will be fondly missed by all who knew and loved her.
