Joyce Moncada Delo, age 94 years, passed away July 13, 2022, in the home of her daughter, surrounded by family, of natural causes. She was born on March 10, 1928 in New Orleans, LA, grew up in Gentilly and lived in Gretna for 65 years. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph L. Moncada Sr. and Theresa Blank Moncada; husband, Stephen Delo, son, Daniel M Delo and sisters, Carole M Perez and Vilma M. McLaughlin, and sisters-in- law Katherine Delo Carr (Ernest) and Helen Delo Band. She is survived by her children, Stephen M Delo Sr. (Ann) of Baton Rouge, LA, Denise A Delo, Gretchen J Delo and two brothers, Joseph Moncada Jr. (Georgia) of Sacramento, CA and Melvin Moncada (Linda) of Lacombe, LA. Grandmother of Stephen Delo, Jr. (Shawnee), Matthew Delo (Cheyannne) and Christopher Delo. Great-grandmother of Stephen Michael "Tripp" Delo, III. She was loved and supported by her “like a daughter” Audrey Lupiba. With grateful appreciation, loving care was provided to her by Julie Darrensburg, who called her “Beautiful”, Diondre Jones, Que Henderson, and Dr. Peter Deblieux. Joyce lived a rich and full life. She was committed to the care of her family and volunteered in the church and community once her children were grown. She loved giving tours at the Pitot House, and being a member of NAIM, Silver Sneakers, the Red Hats, and weekly gatherings with her girlfriends to play dominos and canasta. Joyce was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gretna, where she volunteered in various roles. She enjoyed traveling and visited many countries with her husband, and traveled with her daughters and sister. She loved to sew, paint, cook, and was very creative with the ability to repurpose and reinvent. She also enjoyed watching Survivor, Jeopardy, and talent shows.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1802 Tulane Avenue on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Fr. Thomas Stehlik celebrant. Interment St. Louis Cemetery #3, New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of City Park at https://www.friendsofcitypark.com/donate.
