John “Johnny” Edward Walker, 95 departed his earthly life to be with the Lord on Monday evening, September 12, 2022. He was in residence at his home in Metairie, Louisiana at the time of his passing.
John was born in Angleton, Texas on February 9, 1927, and lived his adult life in Metairie. He completed his education at Tulane University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He spent a long and respected career as an owner of a surveying firm, working throughout the New Orleans area and beyond. John applied his Christian faith to all aspects of his life. He treasured and nurtured his family and friends. His keen interest in New Orleans history was fed by his love of reading and appreciation of historic maps. John was a member and former president of the Board of the Historic New Orleans Collection and former president of the Louisiana Land Surveyors Association. He embraced many friendships throughout his long life and was a member of the Pickwick Club of New Orleans. John is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Martha Foster Herbert Walker, nephews A.W.(Irene) Herbert, Stafford (Maureen) Herbert, Robert (Carolyn) Herbert, nieces Shelley Walker Perdue, Penny Walker Tate and Jenny Walker Hudson, many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. A private service was held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Old Metairie Protestant Church with final burial at Metairie Cemetery.
