John William Connolle

John W. Connolle died peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, October 24th at age 86. He was a true, native New Orleanian, a proud product of the 9th ward and a constant presence in the French Quarter. He was a CPA and a landlord and he did both until the end. He graduated Tulane, played college football and baseball, and served in the Navy in the Korean War. He was a Silver Gloves winner boxing in his teens and a handball champion at the NOAC. He lived most of his life in Gentilly until Katrina took it. He loved fishing at his camp, having a beer with friends ‘down the road’ in Hopedale/Shell Beach, playing tennis in the park, seeing buddies in the 9th ward, stopping in at Tujague’s, and taking a ride in the quarter. He was a fervent provider to his family with a remarkable work ethic. He was quick to laughter (and sometimes temper), but he kept things on his terms and gave just about anyone a second chance. He was loved by many and will be forgotten by few, especially his close friends and family. He was a devoted husband and father and cherished his four grandchildren. His was a life well lived, and we will miss his smile, laugh and his old van riding through the city. He is preceded in death by his wife of near 50 years, Vonita, his parents Thomas Sr., his mother Caroline Zimmer Connolle, his son John, Jr. and his brother Thomas Jr. He is survived by his son Michael and his daughter-in-law, Andree and their sons Finn and John, and by his daughter Angela Connolle Johnson, and his son-in-law Robert, and their sons Brendan and William.  Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am and continue until Service time.
