It is with great sadness that the family of John Alvin Brands, Jr., age 59, announces his passing on Saturday, May 27, 2017. He was born on January 4, 1958. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Brugier Brands and was a loving father to John Alvin Brands, III and Michael Christopher Brands. He was predeceased by his parents Eunice Williamson Brands and John Alvin Brands, Sr. Brother of Susan Brands Grieshaber and Deborah Brands Amundsen (William) and brother-in-law of Dom Grieshaber, Jr. Uncle of Domenick Grieshaber, III, Allyson Grieshaber Serio, Caroline Grieshaber Ashley, Andrew Amundsen, and Stephen Amundsen. He is fondly remembered by his uncle, aunts, cousins, and dear friends. He grew up in Arabi, LA and attended Holy Cross School in New Orleans, graduating in 1976. He went on to attend Louisiana State University and graduated in 1980 with a degree in Marketing. He was a dedicated and long-time employee of Friedrich Air Conditioning Company for twenty-eight years. He was an active volunteer in the St. Tammany Parish community, serving as a Pelican Park baseball and basketball coach and den leader of Pack 611 of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, where he was a devout parishioner. He, along with his wife Pam, received the Order of Saint Louis IX Medallion in recognition of their great dedication and years of service to the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 12:15 P.M. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. and continue until Mass time.
