Irma Garcia

Irma B. Garcia, 90, passed away December 29, 2020, with her family by her side in New
Orleans, Louisiana. She was born June 1, 1930, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, to Antonio and
Amalia Galindo-Calderon. She moved to the United States in 1956. A few years later, she
married Hector Garcia. He preceded her in death in 2006. She worked as a seamstress in
Dallas, TX, for many years. After returning to New Orleans she became a teacher’s assistant
until her retirement.
She was a loving mother of three children. She enjoyed basketball, cooking, bird-watching, and
going to the casino. After retiring she moved in with her daughter and devoted her time caring
for her grandsons.
Irma is survived by her three children, son Eddie Garcia (Jill) Omro, WI, daughter Tania
Bonadona (Vinnie) New Orleans, LA, and daughter Lili Garcia Slidell, LA.
She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Susan Hagen (Jim) Minneapolis, MN, Kate Spina
(Paul), Copenhagen, DK, Kevin Starr, Los Angeles, CA, Richard (Ricky) Starr New Orleans, LA,
and Brittany Laciura, Slidell, LA. She leaves behind her siblings Matilde Galindo, Dolores de
Canales, Alfredo and Vilma Galindo, and Alicia Galindo. She was preceded in death by her
siblings Jose Calderon, Irene Murillo, Isabel Giron, Antonio Galindo, and Carlos Galindo.
A mass was held in her honor on Saturday at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church in Metairie,
LA.
