Henry B. Glade

April 18, 1934 ~ May 5, 2021 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Henry Bernard Glade III (“PopPop”, “Big Henry”, “Hank”, “Abe”, “Little Henry”) passed away peacefully at home, with his wife and all three of their adult children by his side. Henry loved life - people, places, animals and things. Henry absolutely loved people. He and Waynette were married over 58 years and their family was at the center of everything they did. Their children were their top priority, well until the grandchildren came along. Their community also extended through family and neighborhood, school and work, and church. Their biggest joy was a crowd of people that they knew - family parties, neighborhood gatherings, school functions or a work social. And they always welcomed a new face in the crowd. Henry was intrigued by new places - the weather, the culture, the food - but it was often in comparison to the place he loved most, his native hometown New Orleans. He grew up in Audubon and always shared stories of his childhood adventures, from the times of World War II and on to the Audubon Zoo where the Elephants and Alligators asked about you with a little trepidation. As much as he loved New Orleans, his two most favorite places in the world were the home he shared with Waynette in Jefferson and the beach house in Clermont Harbor, MS. Henry also loved animals and his pets included many dogs, a few snakes, a raccoon, rabbits, ducks, and Tinker the family flying squirrel. While others watched their favorite TV show, Hank taught Tinker to climb the curtain and land on his head. Henry loved things - how they ticked, clicked, unticked, and how to make them re-click. He put those skills to the test at Tulane, in the oil fields of Louisiana’s coast, and for over 35 years at IBM. He had an appreciation for an object’s ingenuity and age, but didn’t have much concern for market value. He could fix just about anything that presented itself - from a bird with a wounded wing to a broken record player. If someone said you sounded like a broken record player, Hank might try to fix you when you weren’t looking. Henry loved to laugh with people, to tell a story and make people smile and laugh with him. He had a unique talent of combining his loves of people, places and things and making magic, turning an old BW TV into a submarine, turning bicycle parts into a zip line before there were zip lines, and turning a fallen pine tree into a Christmas Carol station. If you knew Henry, you will understand and appreciate these things and know how brief this description actually is, and you’re glad to have known him and sad to have lost him. He will be deeply missed. Henry is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Waynette (Brinson), their daughter Lisa Schoolfield and husband Bruce, daughter Olivia Rose Glade, and son Henry Glade and his wife Danielle, two grand-daughters Mary and Lucy Schoolfield, sisters Joy Gray and Dianne Cahanan, and many, many cousins and friends. He was proceeded in death by his father, Henry Bernard Glade II and his mother Josephine (Giardina Fiorenza).
