Grace Marie Songy

Grace Milazzo Songy, 95, entered eternal life on Monday, June 18, 2018 with her four children by her side. A native of New Orleans, LA. Resident of Harahan, LA and parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia Parish for the past 62 years. Beloved wife of 59 years of the late Stephen L. Songy, Jr. Mrs. Songy was loved and cherished by daughter Dolores Songy Daigle and sons Michael L. Songy, Donald J. Songy and Mark S. Songy; son-in-law Newton Daigle and daughters-in-law Amy DeGruise Songy and Angela Hymel Songy; five grandchildren, Chauntel Songy, Michael Songy, Jr., Nicole Songy Gaidos, Rachel Songy Poche’ and Donny Songy; five great-grandchildren, Micah and Makayla Songy, Emily Schmidt, Adair Poche’ and Jude Gaidos; and sister-in-law Noemie Seifert. She is preceded in death by her parents Ignatius Milazzo and Mary Ignoffo Milazzo; her sisters Conchetta Drewes, Bernadine Mayer, Louise Culotta and brothers Philip, Anthony, Joseph, Salvador, Ignatius, Peter, and Paul Milazzo. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Employee of Sears, Roebuck and Company for 23 years.
Grace loved to sing and was a member of St. Rita’s Choir for 35 years. She never failed to have a warm smile and loving words for everyone she met. Her love of life and family was always evident in everything about her.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until Mass time. Interment will follow in Hope Mausoleum, 4841 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
