Frank Michael Didamo, 57, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2020 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Frank is the son of the late Teresa and Frank Didamo. Frank was born in Yonkers, New York on August 11, 1962.
Frank received a Bachelor’s Degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1985. He was a flight instructor at Westchester County Airport just outside New York City. In 1986 he started at Bar Harbor Airlines flying the Beech 99, Beech 1900 and Saab 340. Frank flew all over New England and the Northeast, as well as Florida and the Bahamas with Bar Harbor Airlines.
In 1989 Frank started with USAir. Based in Washington D.C., he flew the DC-9 all over the Eastern United States. In 1998, Frank checked out on the Boeing 767 and flew to Europe from Philadelphia. Later he flew the widebody Airbus A330 out of Charlotte to cities in Europe. Before and after his European flying he flew the Airbus A320 all over North America and the Caribbean. Frank finished his career with American Airlines as a Captain on the A320 based in Charlotte.
Frank was also a Captain of three corporate jets: the Cessna Citations X, VII and V. Frank was always well liked by the crews he worked with for his excellent skill, exemplary flying knowledge and his congenial personality.
Frank is affectionately remembered by his wife of ten years, Suzette Didamo, his children Derek Duhon (Amanda), Morgan Rathke (Richard) and Taylor Duhon. His grandchildren, Martin Rathke and Parrish Duhon, lovingly know him as "Caps". Frank is also survived by his sister, Valerie Didamo, nieces, Megan, Alyssa, Amber and nephew Justin Maldonado. His family and friends will always remember Frank for his infectious laugh and his silly, lighthearted attitude. Frank would find humor in most every situation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass and a Celebration of his life at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., Metairie, LA 70005. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, 5190 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. In lieu of flowers, to honor Frank’s battle with pancreatic cancer, the family requests memorial donations be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or via their website at http://www.pancan.org.
