Tribute

Dorothy “Nan” Schnell, 94, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021
Born and raised in New Orleans, the daughter of Henry and Hilda (Selle) Schnell, was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, having last resided in Kenner, Louisiana.  She is the sister of Henry “Hank” Schnell Jr. (deceased), is survived by her sister-in-law Shirley (Schulze) Schnell; Nieces and Nephews, Dorinda Schnell Elliott (Angus), Suzanne Schnell Ruffino (Anthony), and Brenda Schnell Walker (Paul-deceased); Wayne Schnell (Deborah), Keith Schnell (Deborah), and Greg Schnell (Cynthia); 27 great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many close friends, especially Mrs. Anna Avery.
She attended St. Vincent De Paul (Blessed Francis Seelos) church in New Orleans, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Kenner, where she dedicated the altar from former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in the Bywater.  Nan dedicated her life to supporting her family in too many ways to mention here.  She was a devout Roman Catholic, and was supportive of many church functions.  Nan never married, but quietly had a crush on actor Tom Selleck.
Dorothy graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School, and Spencer School of Business. She was employed and retired from Shell Oil Company after 44 years of service.
Nan’s love of family, her faith, and her friendships, including driving to Navy bases along the east coast to visit her nephews, road trips to many destinations with family members for vacations, were just a few of the journeys she enjoyed.  She took great pleasure in attending sports games, dance reviews, plays, and was particularly fond of attending French Quarter Fest, City Park Louisiana Philharmonic events, and a nice quiet meal at local restaurants. Nan had an insatiable passion for reading mystery novels.  She was a great listener, and a great advisor on many life matters.  She will be sadly missed by all she touched.
The family will receive friends Monday April 19 from 10:30 A.M. until 12:15 PM At Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:15 in the J.
