Dorothy Walker Rivenbark passed away in her sleep from natural causes Thursday night February 22nd, 2018, at her home in New Orleans. She was born in New Orleans to Odette Wehrmann Walker and William Ernest Walker, Sr. and was the oldest of four siblings. They were William Ernest Walker, Jr. And Rose Christiansen Walker who preceded her in death along with their parents, and Jean Walker Shaw of Baton Rouge, La. Dorothy was first married to Joseph C. Smith, Sr. Lieutenant Colonel USAF, until his untimely death and then later to William Carey Rivenbark, MD, until his death. She had two children with Lt. Col. Smith, Stephanie Smith McAuliffe, who preceded her in death and Joseph C. Smith, Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dorothy Odette McAuliffe and Mr. & Mrs. Joseph C. Smith, III, who provided her with four great grandchildren, Edry, Emma, Chelsea and Liam.

Dorothy was a graduate of Eleanor McMain High School and had some professional training but spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of Metairie Country Club and Orleans Parish Medical Society and was active in or a contributor to New Orleans Garden Society, The Freedom Foundation, Cancer Crusaders, the Fine Arts Council, New Orleans Opera Guild, World War II Museum, Aquarium of The America’s as well as multiple other organizations. She had many cousins and both old & new friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 12:15 PM on Friday, March 2, 2018 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street in New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until service time. Graveside services will follow in Hope Mausoleum at 4841 Canal Street. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
