David Wayne Hatton, 75, died Monday, July 25, 2022. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.
Mr. Hatton was born January 12, 1947, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Nadine Francis King (Fredrick) and John Clifford Hatton. He was raised in San Diego, CA, where he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1966. While on shore leave in Manila, Philippines, he met his future wife, Margarita Alpino Palaña. They married in 1970.
David served in the Coast Guard for 29 years, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his service, he was stationed in Honolulu, Philadelphia, Key West, New Orleans, Beach Haven, and Grand Isle. David received numerous citations and medals for his service in Vietnam and other stations. He served on the USCG Cutter Pamlico, based in New Orleans, and was Commanding Officer of USCG Stations at Beach Haven and Grand Isle. After retiring, he resided in both New Orleans, LA, and Kiln, MS, for the past 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Nadine and John; and brothers Dennis L. Hatton and Donald D. Hatton. David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margie; his daughters, Marla Viets and partner Andy Watkins of Virginia Beach, VA, Mardi Nelson and partner Chad Blair of New Orleans, LA, and Davina Hatton and partner William Thompson of New Orleans, LA; his son-in-law Sydney Nelson of Metairie, LA; his brother Kim Hatton and his niece Angela Yeager of Rogers, AR; and by his grandchildren Chloe Nelson and Liam Thompson-Hatton.
