Constance Catherine Rutledge, 82, died Monday, May 22, 2023. Mrs. Rutledge was a native of Pittsburgh, PA and lived in New Orleans for the past 27 years.

Mrs. Rutledge worked at House of Broel for 25 years. An avid reader, she authored a children’s book, Claudette of the Vieux Carré, illustrated by her son, the late Thomas Morrison. She was a tireless advocate for the stray cat population in her neighborhood and, in addition to providing them food and shelter, had many feral cats spayed and neutered at her own expense. She loved New Orleans and was an enthusiastic student of local history, architecture, and culture.

Mrs. Rutledge is preceded in death by her husband, Al Rutledge, and her son, Thomas Randolph Morrison. She is survived by her daughter, Stacey Lynn Morrison, and son-in-law, Robert Boiko, of Seattle, and her children Caitlin Yarsky and Dylan Feinstein; and her son, Stephen Arthur Morrison, and daughter-in-law Michelle Handa of Pittsburgh, and their children Lily and Stella. She is also survived by her cousin, Norman Clifton.

Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of New Orleans. Mrs. Rutledge’s ashes will be interred at Hope Mausoleum, 4841 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119.
