Welcome to the memorial page for

Concepcion S. Bencomo

June 4, 1922 ~ October 10, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old
Concepcion (Concha) Suarez Bencomo, age 95 died peacefully at her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 10, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Concha was born in La Habana, Cuba. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raul Antonio Bencomo, her beloved son Richard Bencomo, her parents Aurelio Suarez Garcia-Caceres and Flora Gadea, two brothers, Aurelio Suarez (Raquel) and Jesus Suarez (Isabel) and one sister, Isaura Suarez Campos (Gabino). Concha is survived by her son, Raul Bencomo (Margie), her daughter, Lourdes Bencomo Kadair (Jeff), sister Margarita Menendez (Jorge) and her loving grandchild, Raul R Bencomo, Jr of Los Angeles. She is also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews. Concha enjoyed her life with a strong Catholic faith and love of family and nature. Some of her most joyous times involved discussing her life with her family in Cuba where she grew up, married and had two sons. She fled Castro’s Cuba and joined her two young sons who had been sent to the United States through the Peter Pan Program. As life progressed she would have a much welcomed American-born daughter who became the light of her life. After arriving from Cuba she lived in New Orleans until Katrina destroyed her home in 2005. She moved to Baton Rouge and lived out the remainder of her life. She volunteered while her children attended Holy Rosary Grammar School and also worked for the Latin American Apostolate in her later years where she assisted the Hispanic Community. Concha dearly loved her children, grandchild, flower gardens and most of all her many friends which she made along the way. Concha’s life in Baton Rouge would be one where she enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchild. She loved the Kadairs and became an integral part of their family. She enjoyed being the center of attention, as she often was, and loved to hold court regardless of where she was. She was a joy to be around and will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the opportunity to know her. The family would like to thank her long-time care giver, Mrs. Beverly Austin, the staff and doctors at Baton Rouge General Hospital who lovingly cared for her over many years, and the staff of St. James Place where she made many new friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:30 pm with visitation from 12 to 1:30 pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Congregation of St. Joseph, 3134 Hundred Oaks Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA or the charity of your choice.
