Carmel Storan Fitzpatrick

September 23, 1924 ~ July 16, 2022 (age 97)

Carmel Storan Fitzpatrick completed her earthly life on July 16, 2022, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and the 60th anniversary of the death of her mother.  She was 97 years old, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Lakeview for 70 years. Carmel was the cherished daughter of the late John Joseph and Pauline Yeager Storan, dear sister of the late Audrey S. Broekhoven (Lucien) and beloved wife of the late William E. Fitzpatrick, Sr.  She is survived by their eight children:  Gerard M. Fitzpatrick, Timothy J. Fitzpatrick (Jodi), Carmel F. Sassone (Mark),  Daniel J. Fitzpatrick (Elizabeth), William E. Fitzpatrick, Jr. (Kathryn), Margaret A. Dlugos (Tom), Patricia F. Crowley (the late Dan M.) and Sister Beth Fitzpatrick, O.Carm.  She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Dan M. Crowley, Jr. (Lenée), Patrick W. Crowley, Leslie P. Kovesdi (John), Emily P. Abadie (Justin), Andrea Dlugos, Kevin Dlugos, Daniel S. Fitzpatrick (Grace), Kevin M. Fitzpatrick (Laura), Jack R. Fitzpatrick, Kyle T. Fitzpatrick, Meghan Carmel Fitzpatrick, William E. Fitzpatrick III, Sean P. Fitzpatrick, and Neal S. Fitzpatrick; and  ten great grandchildren:  Dan Michael Crowley III, Caroline and Jack Kovesdi, Thérèse, Gabriel, and Maeve Fitzpatrick,  Braughn and Jay Abadie, and Zelie and Gianna Fitzpatrick.

A devoted homemaker, Carmel always made her children, their children and the “greats,” her highest priority. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who cherished their Aunt Carmel and friends of all ages who treasured her friendship.

Her children are grateful that they were able to provide care for her at her home for many months with the assistance of excellent caregivers. The family offers special thanks to the Staff of Wynhoven Health Care Facility for their attentive care and especially to our sister, Patricia F. Crowley, who lovingly coordinated her care these last months.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend her funeral service at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with her funeral Mass at 12:15 p.m. For those that cannot attend, the mass will be live-streamed.
