Calvin San Nicholas passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, November 7th, 2018. Though he was from New Orleans, San claims that he wasn’t born until he went to New York at 18 years of age in order to pursue a career in fashion design. Throughout his illustrious career, San Nicholas accomplished many goals including becoming a 7th Avenue fashion designer, jewelry designer, model and floral designer. After returning to New Orleans, San introduced his talent to the Mardi Gras world through his glamorous, beautiful and extravagant costume designs that revolutionized the way audiences celebrate Mardi Gras to this day. In addition to his artistic contributions, San was an incredible mentor, a visionary, an inspiration and a wonderful friend. His lifelong goal was to help everyone achieve their fifteen minutes of fame regardless of the obstacles that they may have to conquer. He strived to make people’s dreams become reality. San’s final wish was to positively affect the lives of young creatives trying to overcome adversity and hoped to accomplish that through the sharing of his life story.
