Beverly Levata Porche passed away peacefully Jan. 22, 2018, at the age of 93, just shy of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Curtis Joseph Porche, former Acting Director of Roads and Bridges for Jefferson Parish. They spent their retirement years enjoying visits from family and friends at their small house on a large lake in Mississippi, and for the past 18 years, she lived there independently as a widow, thanks in great part to neighbors Joe and Linda Spitz, and sister-in-law and best friend Jeannette Porche. She also treasured long telephone chats with her lifelong friend and soul sister Claire Flores Tribou.
Beverly was a bookkeeper for many years for Westminster Corp., Latter and Blum and the Kaufman family. She helped with her family restaurant, Levata’s Oyster House on North Claiborne Avenue, and was a secretary for the Port of Embarkation during World War II. She was part of a trio called The Warrettes who sang at USO gatherings. She attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Holy Angles Academy and business school. She raised her family in Gentilly in the 1950s and 60s with neighbors Spud, Bernie, Janet and Jimmy Lynch, and the Tribou family, Tillman, Claire, Deborah, Susan and Arthur.

Family members preceding her in death include parents Anthony and Helena Boudreaux Levata, sister Helen Mae Levata Haller, brother Anthony Levata, godmother Clara Tomasovich and her son, lifelong friend The Rev. Msgr. John Tomasovich.
Also preceding her in death were cousin Pearl Strehle, brothers-in-law Ralph and Charles Porche and William Vidacovich; sisters-in-law Rosemary Porche Vidacovich and Anna June Flores Porche; inlaws Scuddy and Anna Mae Hicks Porche, and beloved aunts Lydia Porche and Stella Porche Breaux.
She is survived by three children, Lynne Porche Jensen (Ronnie Virgets), Richard Joseph Porche (Carla Constanza), and Yvette P. Moreaux (spouse Ryan “Chip” Moreaux); grandchildren Noel Jensen (Angie), Jennifer Jensen Wood (Michael), Christian Porche (Peggy) and Kimberly Porche Licciardi (David), Ryan Moreaux (Olivia), Monee Moreaux, Curtis Moreaux, Jean-Pierre Moreaux (Bridgette) and Dane Moreaux. She also is survived by great grandchildren Courtney Jensen Smith (Scott), Nicolas Jensen (Gabby) and Race Jensen; Holly Wood Whitman (Jonathan) and Anna Mae Wood; Cooper, Madelyn, Lilyan, Lincoln, Landan and Beau Moreaux; Samantha Porche; and great great grandchildren William and Stella Smith, and Jack Whitman. And may God embrace great great grandchildren Canton Moreaux and Oliver Whitman, who were conceived with love but did not make it into this world.
She also was blessed with nieces and nephews and their spouses and families, including Donald and Glenn; Jeanne, Julie and Charlie; Bill, Kay and Robert; Ralph, Brian, Gregory, Sidney, Linda, Maureen and Leslie; and Rosa, Maria, Anna and Anthony.
She was old school at heart and religiously mailed birthday and anniversary cards to family and friends, and called them to sing Happy Birthday. This loving gesture is one of many that will be sorely missed.
The family would like to thank everyone who played a part in the long life of a beautiful woman, including her primary care physician Dr. Glen Kesler, and Tommy, who cared for the grounds of Bev and Bo’s idylic retirement home on Lot 9 on Silver Run Lake. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the Memorial Mass.
