Betty Dalehite Ellis

Betty Lu Dalehite Ellis, age 95, passed away August 29, 2021 in New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Fordtran Ellis, Jr., her parents, Henry Gibbs Dalehite and Elizabeth Henrietta Boillin Dalehite and her brother, Henry Gibbs Dalehite, Jr.  She is survived by her four children, LuAnn Ellis White (Rex), Linda Ellis Brown (the late Terral), Thomas F. Ellis, III (Katherine) and Joan Cox Ellis (Laurence), six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was born in Galveston, Texas and was a long-time resident of the French Quarter.  She was an active parishioner of St. Louis Cathedral, serving as an usher for many years.  She was awarded the Order of St. Louis in 2006 for her services to the Cathedral.  She was a member of several civic organizations including Patio Planters where she served on the Board and judged Christmas decorations.  She was a former queen of the Krewe of Iris and served as an officer for over 40 years.  She took pride in designing float costumes for Iris and enjoyed creating unique costumes to carry out the annual themes.  She enjoyed welcoming people to her French Quarter patio and hosting groups and parties.    

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Louis Cathedral on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.  She will be interred in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Louis Cathedral. Arrangements entrusted to Jacob Schoen & Son.
