Benard Anton Sodek, Jr., 84 of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on May 30, 2021. He was born in Dallas, Texas on January 22, 1937. He married Neola Gail Swords on May 30, 1959 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas, Texas and Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was a member of Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity. He earned a PhD at Oklahoma State University. He spent his career as a physicist in the aerospace industry for over 35 years. In his retirement, he gave lectures on cruise ships for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sandra Kay Honza.
Benny is survived by his loving wife Gail, his daughter Lorriedel, his son Benard III and his daughter-in-law Susan, son Alexander and daughter-in-law Tori Michelle, and his daughter Katherine and son-in-law Steven. He had 5 grandchildren, Jessica Ann, Hunter, Jessica, Reed and Sam.
During his lifetime, Benny enjoyed coaching and refereeing soccer. He was an avid stamp and coin collector. He enjoyed reading, traveling and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
There will be a service on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Lakeview Shepherd Center. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home.
